Minty Chocolate Homemade Lip Balm

This super fun (and very firm) lip balm is adapted from this recipe at From Nature With Love.

This lip balm recipe is firm and almost a little difficult to apply from a tin. It takes some patience to rub your fingers around it until it’s soft enough to transfer to your lips.

Surprisingly, the cocoa powder doesn’t give it much color at all. It turns out a very light tan hue. However, the smell with the mint is out of this world.

Yet again, no matter how heartbreakingly tempted you are to lick your lips when you wear this – don’t do it! It’ll be a fleeting moment of deliciousness followed by an hour of feeling dry. Totally not worth it. (Okay … maybe a little worth it…..)

Minty Chocolate Lip Balm Recipe

  • 1 Tbsp grated beeswax or beeswax pearls
  • 1/8 c. coconut oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp shea butter
  • 1/2 Tbsp cocoa butter
  • 1/2 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1/8 tsp vitamin E oil (or 2 punctured, squeezed out vitamin E capsules)
  • 3 drops peppermint essential oil

Place the shea and cocoa butters in a small pot or double boiler, and add the coconut oil. Heat over VERY low heat for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. (Try not to let the mixture go over 175 degrees, or the shea butter could end up a little gritty.) Add the beeswax and stir well. After the beeswax has completely melted, remove the mixture from the heat and add the essential oil, honey, vitamin E, and cocoa powder, whisking well the whole time. After everything is incorporated and smooth, transfer to a lip balm tube or tin and allow to set for 3 hours.

Simple Kids Craft: Beeswax Nature Faces

Craft Ideas For Children
Nature Faces!
When the sun is hot here is a simple craft you can do outside!  This simple kids project requires beeswax sheets, heat and whatever is growing outside!  Simple craft, but fun!
Give everyone a beeswax sheet.
Fold beeswax sheet in half.  Claire is doing a great job demonstrating this technique. Pretty good for a 2 year old!
Now find some fun things in the yard to decorate with!  We pinched together blades of grass for the hair. Next we found interesting shapes and textures in our yard to create a face.
Beeswax Face Man offically named “Buzz Man”
Here he is inside.
Beeswax crafting is so much fun.  Let your children do what the will with the beeswax, you may be amazed of the creativity your little one has  inside.
Liam (5 Years Old) crafted  “bug on eating a flower”

Claire(2 Years Old) blended grass and smashed her beeswax together and had fun rolling it down the stair railing..
She was quit smitten with her ball of wax, she played with it all day!
So let your children’s creativity come out.  It may not look like much to us adults….but it could be the greatest thing in the world to a child.
So, what kind of face can you make?

Burnt Hand…Happy Birthday

Wholesale orders for Swarm Naturals’ are buzzing in these days and I have found a direct correlation between sales and crabbiness. In a motherly attempt to sooth my children (and myself and my husband!) I have opted to work a few late nights once the babies are asleep. Thinking, that if, I put all my focus on one thing we may have a little less crabby crabs and more smiling squids.

Dishes were getting washed, babies were smiling, I was able to keep up on work, life was good, or so it seemed. True, this WAS a good idea, until I starting operating on 5 hours of sleep. Last night I was pouring candles in the the work shop. On the third batch, which was around 11:00pm, I tipped the pouring pitcher back a little too fair and burnt my hand. For those of you who have never been burnt by HOT liquid beeswax let me tell you, it hurts. At first you feel the sensation, then your eyes look towards the tingle, then you see you hand covered in tiny little rivers of beeswax….then the scream…OUCH! (well ouch and a few other words might of flowed out of my mouth, but the kids WERE asleep, in this situtation they were called for!)

I ran to the bath room and put my hand under cold water. Once the wax was off my hands I covered it with honey. We are beekeepers with lots of honey, it’s not just for tea around here! I am ok and so is my hand. I have a few red lines on my hand from the really, really hot wax, but it should heal.

I ended up going to bed around 3:00am last night, my 3 year old son woke me up at 6:45am this morning…Happy Birthday to me!

O the fun of being a Mompreneur!
